Activities

Washington Mill ES offers a variety of activities for the enjoyment, growth, and enrichment of our students.

Safety Patrols

Safety patrols play a vital role in daily life at Washington Mill, helping to keep the school a safer place for everyone.  Fifth and 6th-grade students are selected as safety patrols and are assigned to positions within and outside of the school building, on school buses, and at school crossings.  They also assist kindergartners to and from class each day, raise and lower the flags, and make the afternoon announcements.

Student Council Association (SCA)

The SCA is Washington Mill's student government body, consisting of five officers and two representatives from each class in grades 3-6. The SCA is a leadership and service organization that conducts service projects and promotes school spirit. The SCA meets regularly to plan and work on these projects. SCA students are selected through an election process.

Band

The Washington Mill Band program is open to students in fifth and sixth grade. Students meet once per week for instruction and perform two concerts each year.

Strings/Orchestra

Strings instruction is offered to students in 4th, 5th and 6th grades. Students meet once per week for instruction and the orchestra performs two concerts each year.

Chorus

Washington Mill offers 5th grade chorus and 6th grade chorus. Each group meets weekly and performs several concerts each year.

PTA-Organized Activities

The PTA sponsors after-school programs throughout the school year, making them free for your children. Typically, two sessions are held for 8-weeks each, from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Some examples of these diverse programs include:

  • Garden Club
  • Science Club
  • Lego and K'Nex Building Club
  • Running Club

The PTA is also actively looking for parents and/or guardians who have a skill, ability, or interest they would like to share with our children during one of these sessions. Example of what parents have done in the past include programs about cooking, chess, gardening, and jacks.

If you have an idea for an after-school program, please contact the PTA at: @email.
