Through the Global Exchange Teacher Program, Washington Mill hosts five exchange teachers who bring culturally responsive teaching methods into our classrooms. These teachers help enrich our learning environment by aligning with our strategic pillars and offering students diverse perspectives. They enhance students global awareness and cultural competency. In addition, these teachers bring experience, energy, and a growth mindset to the WMES family.
We are glad to have our Ambassador teachers with us. In front from left to right we have, Mr. Kyalo (2nd grade from Kenya) and Ms Hinds (2nd grade teacher from Barbados). In the back row from left to right we have, Ms Henry (5th grade teacher from Jamaica), Ms. Howell (5th grade teacher from Jamaica), and Mr. Sinclair (4th grade teacher from Jamaica).

Mr. Dupree makes the news as FCPS Teacher Tuesday. Mr Dupree discussed how he was influenced by teachers and his life-long desire to influence others in a similar way.

A new Fairfax County Public Schools initiative this year brought 31 “Global Exchange” teachers, all of whom have bachelor’s degrees, some of whom have doctorate degrees, and who have a combined 274 years of teaching experience between them, straight into FCPS schools.

Our school was recently named one of 40 Fairfax County public recognized by the Virginia Department of Education and the Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children as 2022 Purple Star Schools.
